Darryl Dawson, P.E. is President and founder of ITS Engineering Ltd. – a premier, professional engineering firm that specifies, plans and designs Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Mr. Dawson has over 40 years of professional experience as an electrical engineer, engineering manager, and ITS technology specialist. In addition, he is a published subject matter expert in the field of Connected Vehicle infrastructure for transportation agencies.

Prior to founding ITS Engineering, Mr. Dawson served as the ITS Deployment Engineer for the Illinois Tollway. Earlier in his career, he was employed for two decades in the national defense systems industry where he managed an engineering staff of over 100 persons designing highly classified digital and radio frequency communications systems for the three military branches, and designing airport communication/landing systems for the Federal Aviation Administration. 

Moreover, he served over two decades in information technology and other non-military-related digital systems engineering roles – including work for IBM, GE, Honeywell, DEC (now a division of HP), and as a consultant to the Chicago Transit Authority. 

Mr. Dawson is a member of ITS Midwest, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), and the National Organization of Minority Engineers (NOME), among others. 

Mr. Dawson earned his Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) – and a Masters of Science degree in Technology Management from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). He has also performed graduate studies in Transportation Engineering at IIT.
